About The Event
The Adoption Council of Canada and Project Outsiders is pleased to facilitate a two-day Digital Storytelling workshop. (Toronto)
Do you have lived experience in the Child Welfare system?
Digital storytelling is a project that works with youth in and from child welfare to tell their story, from their perspective. The filmmakers, aged 13 - 29, create three-minute films about their experiences in foster care, with birth families, customary care, kinship care, adoption and/or aging out of care.
Digital storytelling is a form of narrative therapy, and helps you to develop emotional and advocacy tools. You decide if you want to share your stories publicly, who you want to show them to, and how to use them. You'll also develop practical recording, writing, editing and presentation skills.
The experiences that you've had with foster and group care, with birth families, customary care, kinship care, with adoption and aging out of care, mean that you are in a position to affect change within the system, inform, educate and motivate your peers, and build public awareness.
Please join us for this free workshop to learn how to advocate!
Breakfast and lunch will be provided. Transportation costs will also be provided during the two days and every youth or young adult who participates will receive an honorarium.
Date: Saturday August 28, 2021, Sunday August 29, 2021
9:00 am to 4:30 pm on both days
